Heather Thomas

Heather Thomas is an interior designer and architectural technician at Grumitt Wade Mason.  Her experience in space planning and interior architecture enables her to bring out the best in every property, using the full range of drawing packages for home extensions and redesigns.

Heather joined Grumitt Wade Mason in the spring of 2019.  She enjoys the mix of work which involves office-based activities, going out to site and utilising her technical and creative skills. She likes to get out and about in the local community, meeting clients and finding solutions for their needs.  This is especially rewarding when working on home adaptations for clients with disabilities.

Following her design dreams

Since gaining a degree in Interior Design in 2012, as a mature student at the National Design Academy, Heather has worked for award-winning design practices on commercial and residential projects.  Whilst design is her passion, her earlier career in business administration gave her the skills for successful project management and account handling that continue to prove useful in her current role.

Over the years, Heather’s clients have included large hotel and pub chains, major London businesses for office design and high-end residential clients.  She has relished creating bespoke, one-off schemes to fulfil a client’s brief, ensuring the design both looked good and worked well. On several occasions, she has been involved in large scale projects to redevelop derelict buildings, like cinemas or churches, all over the UK and Ireland.  This work felt particularly worthwhile as once the projects were completed they became hubs for the local community. For one such project, in Newport on the Isle of Wight, Heather won a conservation award, for the compassionate refurbishment of a redundant church into a public house.

Enriching her skillset

Heather likes to keep herself up to date with the latest interior design trends and software, attending design shows and taking time out for self-development.  Most recently, she has taken training courses in Revit and Digital Marketing.

Enjoying life

Away from the office, Heather likes to spend time with her husband and her two teenage sons.  Her creative personality means her diary is dotted with dates for live music, theatre or comedy performances while at home she works on bespoke furnishings and upcycles furniture.  She loves animals and enjoys getting outside for country and seaside walks.
